Welcome to Helen Biles Studio!
My name is Helen and I specialise in Printmaking, Natural Dyeing, Eco Leaf Printing, Indigo and Shibori dyeing, Rust Printing and Oil Painting.
My work is process driven with a focus on combining techniques to discover new ways of printing and expressing my ideas. My artworks are textured, layered and abstract in nature.
Whilst living in Vientiane, Laos, I was privilaged to work alongside the master dyers and weavers at The Houey Hong Vocational Training for women and learned about the natural dyeing process native to Laos.
I spend my time between Dorset and South East Asia where I enjoy discovering new plants to use in my artwork and share my experience and knowledge through creative workshops.
As part of my professional creative career, I held roles as Creative Director at HarperCollins Publishing, Sydney, Art Agent at the Bright Agency, London and Graphic Designer for multiple magazines.
I also have a Master’s degree in Art from the UNSW College of Fine Art (COFA), Sydney, Australia, majoring in painting. I regularly exhibit and have been involved in international artist residency programs.
I run creative workshops in Natural Dyeing, Eco Leaf Printing, Indigo and Shibori dyeing, Rust Printing and Oil Painting.
I also run mentouring programs where I help artists, illustrators and designers develop their work and their portfolios.
I hope you enjoy looking at my work and please contact me if you would like any further info.
